The citrus red mite, Panonychus citri, a new pest of citrus in Spain. Bulletin, Organisation Européenne et Méditerranéenne pour la Protection des Plantes, 14 (2): 129-134.

Abstract
Panonychus citri was identified for the first time in Spain in April 1981 in an orange grove in the north of Alicante Province, and quickly spread to parts of Valencia Province during the same year. At the beginning of 1982, several lemon groves in Murcia Province suffered considerable attack by the mite. In the same year, P. citri was also recorded at very low levels in Andalusia (Almeria, Malaga and Seville Provinces), but has not yet reached pest status there. During 1983, the mite spread all over Alicante, Valencia and Castellon Provinces, becoming a serious pest in many groves at the end of the summer. It occurred more frequently in the coastal area than in the interior, and preferred orange to mandarin. It showed strong seasonal population fluctuations, increasing from July to October. Several acaricides were tested with good results; 1 treatment per year with a mixture of dicofol and tetradifon (6:16) at 0.2% or a mineral oil at 1.5-2.0% is considered sufficient to control the pest, provided it does not become resistant
