Abstract
Panonychus citri (McG.) was found in Spain for the first time in April 1981 when it was noticed in a grove of Valencia late oranges near Benisa, Alicante. By early 1982, the mite was found over a large part of the citrus-growing area from Castellon to Murcia but was of importance only in a few lemon groves near Murcia, Orihuela. Its morphology, injuriousness, natural enemies and control are reviewed from the literature. Preliminary studies in Spain indicated that species preying on the spider mite included Conwentzia psociformis (Curt.), Stethorus punctillum (Weise), Amblyseius stipulatus Athias-Henriot, Typhlodromus phialatus Athias-Henriot, Zetzellia sp. and Agistemus sp.
