Abstract

The life cycle of T. Urticae was determined under a diurnal temperature cycle of 15.0 to 28.3° c to be as follows: After a preovipositional period of 2.1 days T. Urticae deposited an average of 2.4 eggs per day for 15.7 days. Each egg hatched after an incubation period of 6.7 days. The duration of the male and female larval stages averaged 3.6 and 3·7 days respectively. The male and female protonymphal stages lasted an average of 2.7 and 3.0 days respectively. The duration of the deutonymphal stages averaged 3.1 days for males and 3·5 days for females. Total developmental time for the males was 16.1 days and for the females was 16.9 days. From the life history data of T. urticae, a life table was constructed. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) for T. urticae was 0.143. The mean generation time was determined to be 24-00 days and during this time, the population multiplied 30.93 times (R0 ) under the given conditions.
