Abstract
Specimens of Ixodes kaiseri Arthur, 1957 from Egypt, United Arab Republic, were compared with Ixodes cremtlatus Koch, 1844 from Lebanon, U.S.S.R., Afghanistan, and India. The criteria used by Arthur to distinguish I. kaiseri and I . crenulatus were found to be highly variable and therefore invalid. One of the presumed differentiating characters, coxal spurs on the males of I . cremtlatus, was not found at all, an observation corroborated by Filippova (1961). Consequently, we regard I. kaiseri as a synonym of I. cremtlatus. Descriptions of all stages, with illustrations, of I. crenulat~ts, including the female and larva of ’kaiseri’ from Egypt, are given.
