Keywords

Tick host antiserum crab chitin

Abstract

The effects of administering crab chitin suspensions to rat or rabbit hosts either prior to or concurrently with experimental infestations of Dermacentor variabilis were examined. No significant differences were observed between controls and experimentals for tick attachment, engorgement, detachment or egg production. Direct injections of extracts of chitin or of host antiserum to chitin into female ticks did not affect viability.
