Abstract
The family Freyanidae, Dubinin, 1953, is redefined and divided into four subfamilies: Burhinacarinae, n. sub-f.; Diomedacarinae, n. sub-f.; Freyaninae stricto sensu and Michaeliinae, Gaud et Mouchet, 1959. Burhinacarinae include four genera: Burhinacarus, Dubinin, 1956; Cernyella, Gaud, 1968; Freyanomorpha, Gaud, 1957 and a new genus; Cauralicola (Type-species = Cauralicola longicrura, n. sp. on Europygia helias from South America). Diomedacarinae are monogeneric (Type genus = Diomedacarus, Dubinin, 1949).
