Abstract

Different extracts from Abrus precatorius L. seeds were investigated in tests with the two-spotted spider mite T. urticae Koch. Seeds were extracted sequentially with petroleum ether, diethyl ether, chloroform, acetone, ethyl alcohol and water. These extracts were tested for toxic and deterrent properties. Water and ethyl alcohol extracts were the most effective extracts against the adult females. the egg stage was more susceptible to petroleum ether extract than the other extracts tested. Treatments with LC50 and LC25 levels of the different extracts show that petroleum ether extract decreased significantly the number of eggs deposited by the females (deterrent index = 40.32 and 36.29 for the LC50 and LC25 respectively).
