Abstract

A new subspecies of Suladectes hughesae Fain, 1969, S. hughesae antipodus subspec. nov. (Acari: Hypoderatidae), is described form three gannet, Sula bassana serrator Gray, rookeries in New Zealand. The life cycle of this genus is described for the first time. Quiescent deutonymphs were found under the skin of these birds, whilst moulting deutonymphs and adult stages, females and males, were collected from their nests.
