Abstract
A new family of mites, Pentapalpidae, and a new genus and species, Pentapalpus unguempodius, are described from various soil habitats in South Africa. The Pentapalpidae are compared with the Rhagidiidae, to which they are closely related. The distinguishing characteristics are described.
