Abstract
The effects of nitrogen, phosphorus fertilizers (at 0, 90 and 180 kg/ha and 0, 20 and 40 kg/ha, respectively) and combinations of these (at 90 and 20, 90 and 40, 180 and 20, and 180 and 40 kg/ha of nitrogen and phosphorus, respectively) on the abundance of Oligonychus pratensis on sorghum and maize was studied in the field in Texas in 1979 and 1981. Nitrogen fertilizer had a weak positive effect on densities on maize but no effect on sorghum. Phosphorus fertilizer had little effect on mite densities on either crop. More mites were often present on sorghum treated with combinations of fertilizers than in plots treated with nitrogen or phosphorus alone.
