Abstract
Oligonychus thelytokus n. sp. is a thelytokous species of the subfamily Tetranychinae, often living together with Oligonychus coffeae on several tropical plants. It is recorded from the Comoro islands, the Seychelles, Madagascar, Reunion island and New Caledonia. Following the description of the female, some data are given on the biology of this spider mite. In the laboratory, it exhibits only thelytokous parthenogenesis through several successive generations. At a temperature of 25°C and a relative b.umidity between 60 and 70 % : the total duration of the immature stages of development is 13.3 + 0.4 days, the mean progeny per female 11.9 eggs, the intrinsic rate of natural increase of the population (rm) 0.115, and the mean length of a generation (T) 21.5 days. The irradiation of 50 Young fendes by means of X - rays ut 9 800 r, does not induce the apparition of males but strongly reduces the fertility of the females. The eggs die or the females of the FI are generally sterile.
