Red spider, a new problem in fruit-growing in Slovenia. Zastita Bilja, 49-50: 135-141.

Abstract
Our observations on the development of the spider mite and our control attempts on the fruit trees yielded the following results: 1. on the fruit trees, Paratetranychus altaeae has spread the most while Bryobia praeciosa was only found in a few individual places. Of the Tetranychus altaeae, only hops and garden crops (beans) were attacked the most. 2. paratetranychus pilosus was found in the vicinity of Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kamnik and Å entjernej. 3. the cultivated orchards were attacked the most. 4. the results of the experiments showed that winter spraying has no particular effect on winter eggs, so that it is not justified for economic reasons, except in the case that we want to intervene against Aspidiotus perniciosus. 5. spraying before flowering limits the damage to fruit trees to a large extent. The use of systemic products is particularly recommended. 6. among the ovicides, Tedion gave the best results. 7 Albolineum No 1 showed no effect. 8. the systemic agents gave the best results. Among those tested in our trials, Systox 0.05% gave the best results. - The systemic agents have another good property, that their effect is spread over two months, which is particularly important for spraying before the flowering period. 9 In practice, according to our experience to date, a combined spraying is recommended, namely: 1. before the flowering period with one of the systemic agents. 2. about 10 days after flowering and two to three times afterwards (once a month) spraying with one of the ovicides or with Cosan. If the population grows too much, a second application of the systemic agent will be necessary. In this way, the attack of the spider mite could be limited to such an extent that no further major damage would occur.
