Life history studies on Schizotetranychus celarius (Banks), Aponychus corpuzae Rimando as compared with other tetranychid mite species (Acarina: Tetranychidae). Applied Entomology and Zoology, 14: 445-452.

Abstract
Schizotetranychus celarius (Banks), Aponychus corpuzae Rimando develop on dwarf bamboo leaves in Japan and are minor agricultural pests. Their biology was studied in the laboratory at about 25 deg C, 50-60% RH and LD 15:9. Both species were found to have a long life-span and a prolonged oviposition period. The reproductive pattern of S. celarius was characterised by a long oviposition period and a constant low reproductive rate. The reproductive pattern of A. corpuzae was intermediate between that of S. celarius and that of Tetranychus urticae Koch [see RAE/A 68, 719]. Females constituted 83.7-88.4% of the S. celarius population and 58.9-76.6% of the A. corpuzae population. The net reproductive rates were 67.6 and 53.84, respectively, and the intrinsic rates of natural increase were 0.162 and 0.181/day, respectively. The mean generation times were 26.01 and 22.02, respectively. Possible correlations between life-histories of these species and their habitat are discussed
