Abstract
Carpoglyphus lactis was found in 28 of 84 samples of pulque (fermented sap of Agave atrovirens), Histiogaster carpio in 3 samples of this drink. Tepache (a fermented fruit drink) was contaminated by the following species of mites (with numbers of samples contaminated out of 25 examined): Mononychellus erytrinae (1), Eotetranychus lewisi (3), Dolichotetranychus sp. (2), C. lactis (3), Tyrophagus putrescentiae (1), H. carpio (2) and Zygoribatula sp. (5). Tuba (obtained from stems/inflorescences of palms such as coconut) was contaminated by H. carpio (3 of 3 samples), Tyroborus lini (3) and Histiostoma (3). 6 of 10 samples of vinegar were contaminated by Tyrophagus putrescentiae.
