Abstract
Lime trees are very sensitive to the outbreaks of the spider mite Eotetranychus tiliarium. Damages are principally aesthetics. Chemical treatments are restricting, expensive and kill the beneficial fauna. But an alternative exists: Phytoseiidae which are predatory mite of Tetranychidae. Since 1997, INN0PHYT, CRITT of the Centre Region, is looking for solutions with the help of the French Acarology team of the ENSAM-INRA of Montpellier. Experiments have taken place at Villandry on the lime trees (Tilia platyphyllos) of the park castle. In 2001, a mixing of two species of Phytoseiidae has been introduced: Euseius finlandicus and Kampimodromus aberrans. Phytoseiidae were collected branch of wild lime tree in the wood around the park of Villandry. We have also tried to introduce Typhlodromus pyri, a mite succesfully used in orchards. But we cannot conclude on their efficiency. The positive aspect is the fact that mites settled down. During the year, Tetranychidae population stayed at relatively low level, except for the non treated control (a pie the 26-07-01). Explanations are possible: climatic conditions 2001 was very humid, factor that doesn't promote the Tetranychidae development. Except for the treated control, where Phytoseiidae were killed, Phytoseiidae were present at very high level. Please note the positive effect of release on the number of Phytoseiidae present and on the species listed.
