Abstract
The results are presented of a survey of predacious, phytophagous mites on the foliage of 17 native species of Pinus in California. Of 23 families recorded, Phytoseiidae, Tetranychidae and Tenuipalpidae were the most frequently represented. Keys are provided to 11 species of phytoseiids (in 5 genera) and 5 tetranychids (all in the genus Oligonychus) that were found, and notes are provided on the taxonomy, distribution and species of Pinus on which they were found, for these and about 20 other mite species. One new species is described, and among several taxonomic changes proposed, Typhlodromus citri Garman & McG. and T. pini Chant are transferred to Typhloseiopsis
