Abstract
During a faunistic survey started in southwestern Iran in September 1986 to collect mites associated with plants, a total of 37 genera from 21 families was collected during 2 years. Only 8 genera, 6 families had previously been recorded from this area. Ten mite species were new to Iran, including Eutetranychus palmatus on date palms, Oligonychus zeae on sugarcane and maize, Petrobia tunisiae on wheat and barley, Tuckerella knorri and Aegyptobia tragardhi on Cupressus sp., a species of Bdella near B. longicornis on lettuce and Agistemus bakeri on figs. A checklist of all the mite species collected, their host plants and the province in which they were found is given.
