Abstract
Studies were carried out in Spain on the taxonomy, geographical distribution of phytophagous mites of the genus Tetranychus. Six species were identified as being important. T. urticae (55% of total specimens) was distributed throughout peninsular Spain and the Canary Islands and T. turkestani (25%) was distributed throughout Spain. However, this is the first report of T. turkestani in Spain. Other species encountered were T. ludeni and T. neocaledonicus (each 8%) and the rarer species T. viennensis and T. lintearius. For each of the 6 species, information is given on host plants. Details are also provided for the separation of these species based on examination of the male genitalia and a key
