Abstract
Mites are one of the most important pests of papaya. Various types of mites have been known to cause damage both in the field and storage. Data on species and species diversity of pest mites on papaya plants in South Kalimantan are not yet available, so research and species identification are needed. This study aims to determine the species of pest mites on papaya plants in South Kalimantan, especially in Banjarbaru City and Tanah Laut Regency. The method used in this study is a survey method on 3 varieties of papaya plantations, namely California papaya, Hawaiian and Red Pomegranate which are attacked by mites then sampling is done by purposive sampling. In papaya plantations in Banjarbaru City, 4 species of pest mites were found, namely Tetranychus piercei (196 tails), Aculops pelekassi (13 tails), Brevipalpus phoenicis (8 tails) and Eutetranychus africanus (8 tails) while in Tanah Laut Regency only 2 species of pest mites were found, namely, T. piercei (2361 tails) and E. africanus (1 tail). The largest population found was T. piercei (2557 individuals) and the smallest population was B. phoenicis (8 individuals).
